Friends & Neighbors Support Fund

The Friends and Neighbors Support Fund (FANS) is a way for concerned citizens in Washington County to respond to emergency situations affecting their neighbors.  Community partners will identify unique situations that cannot be handled through regular channels, and where response time is critical. These partners include: Community Action Council, CASA, REACH, Inc., Salvation Army, and Interfaith Service Coalition.   

The Community Foundation will electronically forward the details of the situation to our Friends and Neighbors Support Network.  Members of the network who are compelled to assist with this need may make an immediate contribution to the Community Foundation to help resolve the situation.  Once commitments to meet the need have been received, further communication will be issued announcing the resolution of the crisis.  At no time will the Foundation identify the individuals involved, but will simply share enough information to describe the emergency.

Joining the FANS Network is a unique way to give back to your community and to know that your contribution is having an immediate impact in helping an individual or family in need, right here in Washington County.  This network was established to deal with a one-time emergency and avoid a chronic situation.  The Foundation also looks to ensure there are plans to address these situations with long-term solutions through other community organizations before we ask you to invest in a problem that may not be solved.  To join the FANS Network, send your email address with the word FANS in the subject line to cfwc@cfwcmd.org or call 301.745.5210.
