Making an Impact

Although the Community Foundation has provided over $7 million in grants and holds over 170 funds, the Foundation’s isn’t just about creating funds and distributing grants.  Our vision is also about creating a healthy and vibrant community while promoting our values of being “Caring, Responsible, Flexible & Knowledgeable”.

With this in mind the Community Foundation has branched out into areas to help enrich the life of Washington County- now and in the future.

How the Foundation is Making an Impact:

  • Strategic Community Impact Plan (SCIP): The Foundation recently partnered with the United Way of Washington County to establish the Strategic Community Impact Plan (SCIP).  The goal of SCIP is to join efforts and identify and establish goals in the areas of people, families and community that will benefit Washington County.
  • The Waltersdorf-Henson Endowment Challenge Campaign is another area in which the Community Foundation looks to provide long-term support to the nonprofit community through its $10 million challenge campaign that began in 2005 and ended December 2010.
  • People’s Choice Awards: The Foundation realizes that monetary donations and gifts are not the only way someone can give back to their community and in 2000, we established the People’s Choice Awards as a way to honor the unsung heroes of the area who give so unselfishly of their time. • The Big Read: Another way that the Foundation looks to improve the quality of life in Washington County is through programming such as The Big Read, where reading for pleasure and enlightenment is encouraged.

It is the hope of the Community Foundation to leave a lasting impact on the community and we always try to keep our motto in the forefront:  “Looking forward…giving back”.
