About the Waltersdorf-Henson Endowment Challenge Campaign
In 2005, the Community Foundation and nonprofits across Washington County, Maryland embarked on an unprecedented journey to raise over $5 million within five years. This remarkable amount would then be matched dollar for dollar for another $5 million in endowment by Hagerstown’s own John M. Waltersdorf and the Richard A. Henson Foundation located in Salisbury, MD. Now, in 2010, the Community Foundation is proud to announce the successful completion of the Waltersdorf-Henson Endowment Challenge Campaign.
As the Challenge Campaign ended in December 2010, over $10 million was raised for endowment, which will result in over $500,000 per year in new operating capital for the sixteen participating nonprofit organizations. These annual grants will provide services, programs and scholarships to the nonprofits’ clients and members.
