Community Foundation Scholarships Presented at South Hagerstown High School

The Community Foundation of Washington County MD recently presented the following scholarships at South Hagerstown High School:

  • Mildred R. Beckley South Hagerstown High School Educational Fund of $1,000 to Katlin Wolfe.
  • Sherrill Koontz Memorial Scholarship of $3,500 to Sara Peer.
  • William “Bill” Maletzky Scholarship of $425 each to Sierra Hill and Matthew Mannick.
  • Ralph "Coach" Stottlemyer, Jr. Scholarship of $250 each to Megan Frey and Dawson Hottinger.South High Schl pics-17

Katlin Wolfe played both varsity basketball and softball, and was a member of Link Crew. She will go to Hagerstown Community College and major in education in hopes of becoming a teacher.Sara Peer participated in Best Buddies, cheerleading, unified bocce and track, Link Crew, French Club, National Honor Society and Fellowship of Christian Athletes. She plans to attend Frostburg State University and major in business.Sierra Hill played on the varsity volleyball team, WACO Club Volleyball and served as an assistant volleyball coach at Girls Inc. She also volunteered for Faces of America Bike Ride and Smithsburg Little Sluggers Baseball league. Hill would like to attend a four-year university, major in pre-med and become an anesthesiologist.Matthew Mannick played varsity soccer all four years of high school as well as with the Locomotive FC Soccer Club. He was also a member of Link Crew and the National Honor Society. He will go to a four-year university and pursue a career as a physical therapist.Megan Frey played varsity soccer all four years at South as well as with the Hagerstown Soccer Club. She also participated in lacrosse, French Club, Yearbook/Media Club, the National Honor Society and her church youth group. Frey plans to major in environmental science or computer information systems at a four-year university.Dawson Hottinger played both soccer and baseball in high school. He hopes to attend a four-year university to pursue a career as an athletic trainer.
