Donors Step up to Purchase New Air Conditioning Unit for Holly Place

The Community Foundation of Washington County quickly facilitated a collaborative funding effort between several of its donor-advised fundholders to raise $4,800 for the purchase of a new air conditioning unit at Holly Place. Holly Place is an assisted living facility that provides affordable housing and supportive services to 15 low-income senior citizens.Discovering their first floor air conditioning unit no longer worked, Holly Place contacted the Community Foundation for financial assistance. Since donor-advised fundholders remain actively involved in recommending grants to meet their charitable goals, Community Foundation staff work with them on various giving opportunities, such as this one, to facilitate individual and collaborative efforts.“Holly Place was in a real bind, and the Community Foundation really stepped up,” said Doug Wright, president of the board of Senior Living Alternatives, Inc. that operates Holly Place. Doug continued, “When you manage a low-income assisted living home and one of your two air conditioners fails, you need help, and right away. Through the Foundation’s donor-advised fundholders and B G’s Service Company, we were able to have a new unit installed. What a blessing!”Resident
