Gene Wiles Grant Awarded to Jacob Reiter at Ag Expo

The Community Foundation of Washington County MD and the Wiles family presented the Gene Wiles Memorial Award of $1,250 to Jacob Reiter during the Washington County Ag Expo & Fair’s 4H/FFA Market Sale. The Wiles’ family and local community created this fund to honor Gene and his love for agriculture. The award offers financial support in the form of an annual grant through a qualifying organization to assist a young adult from Washington County, Maryland, or the surrounding area, pursuing an agricultural endeavor.Wiles award1Reiter will use his grant to purchase beef heifers or cows to start his own herd. He then plans on showing beef steers or selling them to other 4-H members who want to start showing beef steers as well. Reiter graduated from Smithsburg High School and participated in 4-H for nine years and FFA for three. He has worked at a dairy farm for many years and Windy Springs Farm in Smithsburg for the past year.
