Mary K. Bowman Fund for Historical and Fine Arts Grants More than $60,000 to Local Nonprofits

The Mary K. Bowman Fund for Historical and Fine Arts, a fund of the Community Foundation, presented its 2017 grants in a ceremony hosted by the Washington County Museum of Fine Arts. The Mary K. Bowman Fund provides financial support for current charitable and educational initiatives that preserve and maintain historical and cultural properties in Washington County. It also promotes the fine arts, history and historic preservation while encouraging the interest in and study of such matters.Bowman groupThis year’s fund awarded $62,875 to the following 14 local nonprofit organizations:

  • Barbara Ingram School for the Arts Foundation, Inc.: Summer Arts Academy for students in 5th-12th grade.
  • Boonsboro Historical Society 225th Anniversary: Historic image, document and audio preservation project.
  • C&O Canal Trust: Canal classrooms in Williamsport that provide a multidisciplinary STEAM program to 4th graders.
  • Discovery Station at Hagerstown: Civil War exhibit updates.
  • Fort Ritchie Community Center: Summer Arts & History program with children ages 6-13.
  • Hagerstown Aviation Museum: The 1919 Bellanca CE Replica Aircraft Project.
  • Hagerstown Day Nursery: For the children at the center to attend Kinder Konzerts.
  • Maryland Symphony Orchestra: The 2017-2018 Kinder Konzert series.
  • Potomac Playmakers: For their live radio performance at the Williamsport World War II Weekend.
  • Washington County Arts Council: Art Educators of Washington County 2018 Exhibit.
  • Washington County Historical Trust: Restore the Saylor House at Kiwanis Park as an educational center focused on historic buildings and the natural environment.
  • Washington County Museum of Fine Arts: Youth art education programs during 2017-18.
  • Women’s Club: Repair and refurbish five ornamental wrought iron grilles on the outside of the building.
  • Zion United Church of Christ: Preservation of historic stained glass windows.
