Melissa Collins Memorial Scholarship Created

The Forrest Family recently created the Melissa Collins Memorial Scholarship at the Community Foundation of Washington County to memorialize Melissa who passed away last May at the age of 17. Born in Waynesboro, PA, Melissa lived in Hagerstown and was currently a senior at North Hagerstown High School. She participated in her school’s chorus, drama club, show choir and women’s ensemble. Melissa served as a manager of the Hubs Football Team and spent her summers as a counselor at Camp Joy El. She also attended St. Joseph Catholic Church. After graduating from high school, she planned to attend Hagerstown Community College and major in music therapy or music education.Collins_Melissa_23aThe Melissa Collins Memorial Scholarship will award students graduating from North Hagerstown High School who participated in a music or drama program offered at the school. It will make its first award in the spring of 2017. Donations can be made in Melissa’s memory to the Community Foundation at 33 W. Franklin St., Suite 203, Hagerstown, MD 21740, or on the Foundation’s website. The Forrest Family, which includes Melissa’s boyfriend, Ben, hopes this fund will help the community remember Melissa for her sweet spirit, and not for the tragic way in which her life ended.
