Smithsburg High School Gives Away Community Foundation Scholarships

 The Community Foundation presented the following scholarships at Smithsburg High School’s Senior Awards Ceremony:

  •  Mitchell Akers Leopard Spirit Scholarship of $1,300 to Fiona Zahm
  • Charas Heurich Memorial Scholarship of $150 each to Michael Robinette and Hollee Winders
  • Mike and Marlene Young Scholars Award of $1,500 to Allison Cline

Smithsburg Schl Rec7-16Fiona Zahm played varsity soccer all four years of high school, serving as team captain her senior year. She also ran varsity indoor and outdoor track and participated in Fellowship of Christian Athletes as a huddle leader. Miss Zahm plans to pursue a degree in international studies/gender studies at a four-year university.Michael Robinette played varsity football all four years of high school and received All-County Honorable Mention his senior year. He also ran indoor and outdoor track and participated in orchestra, playing in All-County Orchestra all four years. Mr. Robinette will attend Johns Hopkins University, majoring in chemistry with a minor in music.Hollee Winders played varsity volleyball for four years and served as a volleyball camp counselor at Smithsburg High School. She was a member of the SGA, Homecoming Committee and a Link Leader. Miss Winders plans to go to Shepherd University and major in biology.Allison Cline took Honors and AP classes, played varsity lacrosse and belonged to the Spread the Love Club and prom committee. She will attend Belmont Abbey College and major in elementary education and continue playing lacrosse.
