Washington County Gives Kick Off Event Held at Hagerstown City Park Awards $5,500 to Participating Nonprofits

The Community Foundation of Washington County MD, Inc. has kicked off a week of anticipation leading up to Tuesday, May 10th’s tenth annual Washington County Gives Day of Giving with an official “Kick Off Event” at Hagerstown City Park. Hosted by local personality Ryan Smetzer this event drew attendance of approximately 150 nonprofit representatives, all eager to win prizes.

Aspiring to Serve, American Red Cross of Greater Shenandoah Valley, and Authentic Community Theatre each won $1,000 prizes sponsored by AC&T, the John R. Hershey & Anna L. Hershey Family Foundation, and Volvo Group.

Habitat for Humanity of Washington County and Humane Society of Washington County each won $250 prizes sponsored by Mathias Trust.

Horizon Goodwill Industries, Discovery Station at Hagerstown, Western Maryland Hospital Center Therapeutic Gardens, Reach of Washington County, Hagerstown Hopes, and Justice’s Sake, each won $250 prizes sponsored by God’s Grace Fund.

Maryland Crime Victims’ Resource Center, Inc. of Western Maryland, St. Maria Goretti Catholic High School, Inc., and Camp Ritchie Museum, Inc., each won $100 random prizes.

Washcloths for Wellness and Washington County Arts Council each won a $100 Ryan Smetzer Award.

In the past nine years, Washington County Gives has raised $3,794,397 for our community. It creates real change that goes directly to participating nonprofits through unrestricted fundraising, combined with fund-matching and random prizes drawn from overall sponsorships.
